Tragic Discovery in Capas-Tarlac: The Unveiling of a Grim Mystery

Two weeks after their disappearance, the bodies of a Kapampangan beauty pageant contestant and her Israeli boyfriend were discovered in Capas-Tarlac. Geneva Lopez and Yitzhak Cohen were positively identified by relatives, confirmed by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the Philippine National Police (PNP). A crucial breakthrough came when a man who witnessed the burial came forward, leading to the recovery of the bodies.

A key witness who saw the burial of the victims emerged and played a vital role in locating the remains of Geneva Lopez and Yitzhak Cohen. The relatives of the beauty pageant contestant confirmed their identities, affirming that they were the missing couple.

The discovery caused immense grief among the relatives and friends of Geneva Lopez when they saw her unearthed remains on Saturday morning. The bodies were almost decomposed when found. Acting on a search warrant, the police combed this section of the quarry site in the remote and distant barangay of Santa Lucia in Capas-Tarlac on Saturday morning.

After two weeks of investigation and searching, the police located this quarry site in Barangay Santa Lucia, Capas-Tarlac, where the missing couple was believed to be buried. Over an hour of digging led to the discovery of some documents and the remains of a man and a woman. Although decomposed, they were identified based on their clothing, watch, belt, and ring.

To ensure the accuracy of their findings, the PNP relied on the testimony of a man who was present during the burial on June 21, the same day the couple was reported missing. This individual, known as "Alias Junjun," claimed he was hired by one of the persons of interest to repair a vehicle. He also recounted being instructed to burn the couple's SUV in Barangay Cristo Rey, Capas-Tarlac.

The Bureau of Fire Protection's laboratory tests corroborated Alias Junjun's account, confirming that the vehicle tested negative for flammable substances. The police currently hold two persons of interest, both former police officers, one of whom acted as a middleman. DILG Secretary Benjur Abalos vowed to ensure that those responsible for the crime would be held accountable.

At present, the bodies of Geneva Lopez and Yitzhak Cohen are at a funeral home in Tarlac City. The Israeli family has declined to make any statements. The remains will undergo an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

The critical question remains: who masterminded the burial and ordered the burning of the SUV? As of now, details and information provided by the key witness to the media and police are limited.
