Striving for a Livelihood

Through fishing, Kadafi is able to provide for his family's daily needs. In the waters of Zamboanga City, he catches various seafood like lato and other marine products. This is their source of livelihood, sustaining them with food and income.

The Extraordinary Stone

One December day, while diving, Kaddafi stumbled upon something that startled him. It was a transparent blue stone, about the size of a coin, that glittered under the sunlight. He showed it to his wife, Rada, and after some research by his brother, they believed it to be a Blue Diamond worth 200 million pesos.

Dreams of Escaping Poverty

Kadafi and his family hoped that the discovered stone would lift them out of poverty. His wife Rada, who sells seafood and vegetables, also saw it as their beacon of hope. Kadafi took great care of the stone, believing it would bring good fortune to their family.

A Series of Misfortunes

Instead of bringing luck, a series of misfortunes struck the family after finding the stone. Kadafi's fishing boat developed a hole, and his nephew, Sulaiman, fell ill and eventually passed away. These problems seemed to be connected to the discovered stone.

Evaluating the Stone

To confirm the stone's value, they had it examined by an authorized jeweler. The result revealed that it was not a Blue Diamond but an ordinary gemstone. According to the expert, it was a type of opal gemstone, not as valuable as Kadafi had hoped. Unlike the dark blue of a genuine Blue Diamond, the found stone was light blue.

Assistance from the Local Government

Although the stone did not meet their expectations, the local government extended financial assistance to Kadafi and his family. They also sought a sponsor to provide Kadafi with a new boat for fishing.
