Quezon’s pink journey for Leni
by JOHN A. BELLO
When Vice Pres. Leni Robredo finally declared on Oct. 7 she is running for president in the May 9, 2022 elections, Quezon for Leni (QFL) volunteers group immediately dug in to contribute in the campaign journey.
They have already formed a core group of organizers to launch activities, programs and projects in support of Robredo whom they believe is the most qualified and rightful candidate to fill in the highest position of the nation to succeed the outgoing Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte.
Members of the ad hoc provincial core group have identified themselves to their fast growing membership of community volunteers in Quezon province’ 4 districts for direction and accountability.
They are: Lucena city councilor Sunshine Abcede as chairperson, Lito Decepeda of Guinayangan as vice chairperson, Benjie Romero of Gumaca and Cheryl Manalo of Lucena city as secretary, Estela Yap and Rubi Bandilla as treasurers, Roberto Glodoveza of Atimonan as auditor and German Mercado of Candelaria as public relations officer.
QFL coordinates with QueLeni Tayo initiated by former Quezon 2nd district congressman Irvin Alcala and with such sectoral support groups such as Lawyers for Leni, Doctors for Leni, Youth for Leni, Tropang Leni Chapters which all take directions from Team Leni Robredo (TLR) in their joint efforts to bring Robredo to presidency in 2022.
Last Oct. 23, QueLeni Tayo linked arms with QFL in organizing its own Charity Ride Pink Caravan for VP Leni that kicked off from Tiaong to Tagkawayan coinciding with the nationwide proclamation rally for TROPA or Team Robredo-Pangilinan presidential and vice presidential run in the May 2022 elections.
Attending the start of the caravan in Tiaong were Irvin Alcala, Sampaloc vice mayor Kenneth Nantes who came with his own delegation of Robredo supporters from his town, former 2nd district Rep. Vicente ‘Kulit’ Alcala, his daughters Ayee, Vinnette and Vanna, Sariaya councilor Alcala, Jay Lim of Tanggol Kalikasan, and a motley pack of motorbike riders who braved the heavy pouring rains on the road up to Tagkawayan town which borders Camarines Norte province.
As they passed Bgy. Kanlurang Mayao Diversion road in Lucena city, the participants of the caravan, sporting pink ribbons, placards and banners in their cars, saw a 50 meters long concrete wall along the highway painted in big bold letters which read ‘Leni Robredo 2022’.
Vladimir Agcaoili Nieto, fierce advocate of local culture, heritage and history in Quezon province, joined the motorcade with his own family aboard their car.
“Not a single cent coming from Leni, ok na ok lang. Kami ang gumastos lahat para sa aming pakikiisa. Ang we will do more if kailangan.
Naniniwala kaming si Leni ang dapat maging pangulo sa 2022,” he said in his Facebook post to counter claims and accusations in other provinces whose participants allegedly were paid to participate in the event.
Joanne Veronica Bello, a Gr. 11 senior high school student in Special Program in Journalism of Quezon National High School in Lucena city, also joined the event flashing with her fingers the ‘L’ sign for ‘Laban’ (fight) as she rode aboard a van with Lim, and broadcasters Danny Ordonez and Irvin Quizon as the caravan passed by residents holding makeshift placards in Gumaca and Lopez towns whose houses displayed pink ribbons and buntings.
Ismael Santo Olaya organized his own core group in Guinayangan for Leni drawing enthusiastic support of townmates even those working from abroad and during the Charity Ride he was able to gather 3 busloads of Robredo supporters who came to the event center in Tagkawayan.
Helen Cerilla of Lopez said that they joined to show and prove that the women folk and mothers in their town are supporting VP Leni.
Dennis Guerrero, former provincial government attorney, also came to help in the Robredo campaign and for jailed Sen. Leila Delima whom he believes deserves to be reelected.
In his brief speech, Irvin Alcala stressed that VP Leni is not the lesser evil among the presidential candidates but the right choice and what they are doing is the right battle that must be fought with consistency and focus for the sake of the province and the entire country.
At the fund-raising drive during the event, participants freely and voluntarily donated whatever they have in cash and the collected amount reached P20,840 which was turned over by Alcala accompanied by core group members to the Office of the Vice President.
On Oct. 27, which is designated as Pink Wednesday nationwide, QFL held a spontaneous gathering they dubbed PinkMob at SM City-Lucena where they just formed a long line of pink as they walked inside the mall, gathered and talked over a cup of coffee at the Event Center at the 4th flr. of the shopping mall.
On Oct. 30, Irvin Alcala had a meeting of convenors group with some barangay officials held at Central Sunrise in Pagbilao, while several Pink Caravans of Hope sprouted in Real, Infanta, Gen. Nakar and in other parts of the province to show their support for Robredo presidency.
